Project Name: Moscow Metro Expansion – Troitskaya Line
Product Scope: Perforated Cable Trays (Ventilated Trays), C-Profiles (Strut Channels), Flexible Metal Conduits
Project Status: Completed | Commissioning Year: 2024
Client/Owner: Russian Railways
EPC Contractor/Procurement: Mosmetrostroy
Supplier: Burkaf
The Moscow Metro Expansion project is one of the largest urban transportation projects in Russia. The Troitskaya Line is a major new line of the Moscow Metro system, connecting the city center with emerging southwestern districts. The line spans approximately 40 kilometers with multiple stations and supporting facilities. The completion of this line significantly alleviates traffic pressure in the southwestern direction of Moscow, serving millions of residents in their daily commutes.
Burkaf partnered with Mosmetrostroy to provide perforated cable trays, C-profiles (strut channels), and flexible metal conduits for the Troitskaya Line. The perforated cable tray design facilitates cable routing and heat dissipation, and the products needed to adapt to long-term use under Russia's harsh cold climate conditions.
Harsh Cold Climate Conditions: Winter temperatures in Moscow can drop to -30°C or even lower. Cable trays and flexible metal conduits must have excellent low-temperature impact resistance and cold resistance to prevent embrittlement and cracking under extreme low temperatures.
Severe Temperature Fluctuations: The metro system experiences dramatic temperature variations between tunnels and the outside, as well as between summer and winter. Products must have good thermal stability and resistance to thermal expansion and contraction.
Fire Safety Requirements for Rail Transit: As densely populated enclosed spaces, metro systems impose strict fire protection requirements on cable trays.
Special Characteristics of Underground Environments: Metro tunnels have high humidity levels and potential for groundwater seepage, imposing additional corrosion resistance requirements on products.
Coordination with Mosmetrostroy: As a major EPC contractor for Moscow Metro construction, Mosmetrostroy imposes strict requirements on supplier technical standards, quality management, and project delivery.
Burkaf provided a combined solution of perforated cable trays, C-profiles, and flexible metal conduits for this project, fully addressing the unique requirements of the Moscow Metro Troitskaya Line under harsh cold climate conditions.
1. Low-Temperature Design: Adapting to Russia's Harsh Cold Climate
Burkaf perforated cable trays utilize low-temperature-resistant steel and specialized surface finishing, maintaining good mechanical performance under extreme low-temperature conditions of -30°C and below without embrittlement, cracking, or deformation. Material selection fully considers low-temperature impact toughness, ensuring long-term reliable operation during Russian winters.
2. Perforated Cable Trays: Facilitating Cable Routing and Heat Dissipation
Perforated cable trays feature an open-bottom hole pattern, facilitating cable fixing and tying for neat, orderly wiring. The open structure also allows timely dissipation of heat generated during cable operation, preventing heat buildup—particularly suitable for the relatively enclosed installation environment of metro tunnels.
3. Flexible Metal Conduits: Cold-Resistant End-Point Protection
Burkaf flexible metal conduits utilize low-temperature-resistant materials, maintaining good flexibility under harsh cold conditions for easy on-site installation and later maintenance. Their metal construction also provides good mechanical protection.
4. C-Profiles: A Flexible Support System
C-profiles, combined with matching connectors, enabled rapid construction of tray hangers, equipment brackets, and other support structures, adapting to the complex installation environment of metro tunnels. The standardized design facilitates on-site cutting and adjustments, improving installation efficiency.
5. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
Products feature surface finishing processes that comply with metro environment requirements, providing good resistance to moisture and corrosion, adapting to potentially humid conditions within metro tunnels.
6. Meeting Mosmetrostroy's Strict Standards
Burkaf products successfully passed technical reviews and quality inspections by Mosmetrostroy, with complete product documentation, test reports, and quality traceability documents provided, demonstrating the capability to serve a major Russian transportation engineering EPC contractor.
The Moscow Metro Troitskaya Line was successfully opened to traffic in 2024.
The Burkaf perforated cable tray, C-profile, and flexible metal conduit system operated reliably under Russia's harsh cold climate conditions, with no material failures caused by low temperatures.
Received high recognition from Mosmetrostroy and client Russian Railways for product quality and delivery performance.
The successful implementation of this project demonstrates that Burkaf products can adapt to the extreme low-temperature environment of Russia's harsh cold climate. Perforated cable trays address both wiring convenience and heat dissipation needs, C-profiles provide flexible support, and flexible metal conduits deliver cold-resistant end-point protection. Together, these three product categories form a complete cable management solution for rail transit in cold regions.
