Project Name: Dubai Data Center – Dubai Internet City (DIC)
Product Scope: Perforated Cable Trays (Ventilated Trays), Flexible Metal Conduits (Liquid-tight or metallic flexible conduits), C-Profiles (Strut Channels)
Project Status: Completed | Commissioning Year: 2024
Client/Owner: Equinix
EPC Contractor/Procurement: Turner Construction
Supplier: Burkaf

Project Background

Dubai Internet City (DIC) is the leading technology ecosystem and internet industry hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This data center project, developed by Equinix, a global data center giant, serves as a critical digital hub for the region, providing essential infrastructure support for cloud computing, big data, and digital services.

Burkaf partnered with Turner Construction, a world-class construction EPC contractor, to provide perforated cable trays, flexible metal conduits, and C-profiles (strut channels) for this project, meeting the stringent requirements of high-density cable routing and heat dissipation in data centers.

Challenges

  • High-Density Cable Routing: Data centers feature dense server cabinets with massive numbers of power and data cables in limited routing spaces, demanding high capacity and superior cable management from the support system.

  • Strict Heat Dissipation Requirements: High-density cables generate heat during operation. Poor heat dissipation can accelerate cable insulation aging and even impact the data center's overall cooling efficiency.

  • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Control: Power cables must be effectively segregated from sensitive data cables to prevent EMI that could compromise data transmission quality.

  • Flexible End-Point Protection: Connections between cabinets and cable trays require flexible protection to accommodate equipment layout changes and maintenance needs.

  • World-Class EPC Contractor Standards: Turner Construction is a globally recognized construction contractor, and Equinix is a benchmark in the data center industry. Both impose extremely high standards on supplier quality and delivery.

Burkaf Solution

Burkaf provided a combined solution of perforated cable trays, flexible metal conduits, and C-profiles to fully address the unique electrical cabling requirements of the data center.

How Burkaf's Advantages Were Demonstrated in This Project:

1. Perforated Cable Trays: Balancing Heat Dissipation and High-Density Routing
Perforated cable trays feature an open-bottom hole pattern, allowing heat generated by cables to dissipate upward, preventing heat buildup. In high-density routing scenarios, this characteristic is especially critical, helping maintain cable operating temperatures within allowable limits, extending cable life, and avoiding added burden on the data center's cooling system.

2. Effective Segregation of Power and Data Cables
Using compartment dividers or independent tray layouts, the system achieves physical separation between power cables and data cables, reducing electromagnetic interference risks and ensuring stable, reliable data transmission.

3. Flexible Metal Conduits: Flexible End-Point Protection
Flexible metal conduits are used for connections between cabinets and cable trays, providing flexible protection that facilitates equipment maintenance and circuit modifications. Their metal construction also offers good mechanical protection and electromagnetic shielding properties.

4. C-Profiles: A Flexible Support System
C-profiles, combined with matching connectors, enabled rapid construction of tray hangers, above-cabinet supports, and equipment brackets, adapting to the complex installation environment of data centers. Hot-dip galvanized finishing provides excellent corrosion protection.

5. Meeting Turner & Equinix Stringent Standards
Burkaf products successfully passed technical reviews and quality inspections by Turner Construction and Equinix, with complete product documentation and test reports provided, demonstrating the capability to serve world-class clients.

Project Results

  • The Dubai Internet City Data Center was successfully completed and put into operation in 2024.

  • The Burkaf perforated cable tray system achieved effective cable heat dissipation and neat wiring management. Flexible metal conduits provided adaptable end-point protection, and the C-profile support system proved robust and reliable.

  • Received recognition from Turner Construction and client Equinix for product quality and delivery performance.

Project Value

The successful implementation of this project demonstrates that Burkaf products meet the specialized demands of data centers—a highly demanding application scenario. Perforated cable trays address both heat dissipation and cable management, flexible metal conduits provide end-point flexibility, and C-profiles enable adaptable support. Together, these three product categories form a complete cable management solution for data centers.
