The U profile is typically manufactured from high-quality steel (pre-galvanized, hot-dip galvanized, or stainless steel) and features a continuous channel with inward-turned lips or flanges along the open edges. This design significantly enhances the profile's moment of inertia and bending resistance, allowing for longer spans and heavier load capacities compared to flat bar or angle profiles.

The open U-shape facilitates quick and flexible attachment of threaded rods, hangers, brackets, or other hardware.
